BlackBerry CEO John Chen calls iPhone users “Wall Huggers”

Since taking over the top position at BlackBerry, CEO John Chen hasn’t been shy in voicing his opinion. BlackBerry say they are not looking for a fight and merely defending themselves whenever they view themselves as being “attacked”.

However, it appears that they are now going on the attack. BlackBerry CEO John Chen was speaking at the Oasis Montgomery Conference last week and was asked what he thought about Apple’s iPhone.  He said that since the iPhone can’t last a full day without requiring a battery recharge, he calls users of the device “wall-huggers”.

Presumably, this is a reference that iPhone users are constantly leaning (hugging) against a wall, recharging their iPhone.

Standing up for themselves is one thing but attacking a competitors users is another, even if it’s meant to be taken as a joke. Has he forgotten that BlackBerry are trying to entice iPhone users to use BES and that iPhone users currently using BES are also BlackBerry customers?

We expect better from Mr. Chen.[signoff predefined=”Enjoy this?” icon=”icon-users”][/signoff]
