O2 raises its prices by two percent

O2 has raised its prices by two percent. The rise is in line with the Retail Price Index and will apply to customers who are on O2 before January 23rd.

That date was not chosen at random as it’s the date that Ofcom’s new rules about mid-contract price rises come in, allowing customers to cancel their contracts free of charge if bills are increased during the term of a contract. O2′s changes will take effect from March 1st but won’t apply to anyone who signed a contract on or after January 23rd as your plan will be governed by Ofcom’s new ruling.

O2′s also increasing the cost of out of bundle allowance charges, with calls going up from 35p to 40p per minute, SMS from 12p to 15p and MMS from 35p to 40p.

An O2 spokesperson stated:

“Price increases are never welcome but inflation has an impact on our costs. For most of our customers it will mean an additional charge of less than 60 pence on their monthly subscription.”
