East-West Gate Intermodal Terminal

Huawei and Vodafone to build Europe’s first 5G rail terminal

Europe's first 5G rail terminal will be built at East-West Gate

Huawei and Vodafone Hungary are teaming up to build Europe’s first smart railway hub managed by a 5G private network provided by Vodafone Hungary and Huawei Hungary.

The 5G technology will be used to remotely control the terminal’s fully self-propelled giant cranes, which are capable of even, fine movements.

The project, which covers an area of 85 hectares in Fenyeslitke, will become Europe’s largest intelligent multi-modal railway hub and Europe’s first railway port to use a 5G private network for internal communication and technical equipment networking management.

5G technology will be used to remotely control fully automatic gantry cranes for intelligent loading and unloading operations. It will be able to handle 1 million standard containers per year after project completion in the first quarter of next year.

“The announcement of the cooperation related to the Fényeslitke project is also a holiday for NMHH, as we can also see another result of our work. The result of the work we have begun almost two years ago to ensure that industry also benefits as much as possible from the incredible opportunities offered by 5G technology. ” – said Dr. Janka Börcs, Director General of the National Media and Communications Authority.

Huawei 5G Railway Port

Colin Cai Lingyu, CEO of Huawei Technologies Hungary, said at the signing ceremony that this is the first time that the company has used 5G technology to empower the traditional railway logistics industry in Europe and realize remote control of cranes through 5G technology.

With the technical advantages of 5G technology, such as high speed, low delays and high capacity, workers only need to sit in the central control room and use the high-definition video returned by 5G to complete the operation remotely, which improves the working environment and operation efficiency.

Dr. Péter Sztáray is State Secretary for Security Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said:

“The goal of the Government of Hungary is for Hungary to be the winner of the current world market transformations. To do this, it uses the tools of job creation, investments and tax cuts, because this will make the Hungarian economy sustainable and competitive in the long run.

A very good example of this is the East-West Gate terminal on the eastern border of the country, and the technological development that has just been announced. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is confident of further cooperation. “

Mátyás Dobó, Deputy CEO of Vodafone Hungary’s Corporate Services Business Unit commented:

“5G is a new platform worldwide, but its importance is already indisputable: new industrial and logistics business models can be built on next-generation mobile networks, which contribute to the development of domestic companies and job creation, and last but not least, encourage exports and make Hungary an attractive destination for manufacturing abroad. for outsourcing companies.

5G is the first technology that organically connects the mobile network to business use, which is why we have been working since the beginning to make Hungary one of the most important private 5G network service centres in the region, where projects are encouraged by domestic and international partners. investments. A perfect example of this is the development at the East-West Gate logistics terminal. I hope, –
