Apple Pay UK

Apple Pay officially available in Germany

Apple Pay is now officially available in Germany, making it the 32nd market to receive Apple’s mobile payment service.

Users can commute and pay for everyday items, and make convenient and private credit and prepaid card purchases in stores, apps and on the web with a single touch.

Initial support is provided by Comdirect, Deutsche Bank, Fidor Bank, Hanseatic Bank, HypoVereinsbank and prepaid service Edenred.

Mobile banking services Boon, Bunq, N26, o2, Square and VIMpay also offer integration, as do credit card companies American Express, MasterCard and Visa.

Apple Pay is accepted at a number of retailers in Germany including Aldi, Avia, Berhska, Cigo, Ditsch, dm, Galeria Kaufhof, HEM, Kaufland, Lidl, Netto, Real and more.

While Apple has already launched its payment services in other countries, a fight with banks over fees had delayed the start in Germany.

When paying for goods and services on the go within apps or Safari, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6 and later, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3 and later. You can also use Apple Pay in Safari on any Mac introduced in or after 2012 running macOS Sierra, and confirm the payment with iPhone 6 or later or Apple Watch.
