Sony announces the Xperia Z4 in Japan

Last updated:

Sony has announced the Xperia Z4 in Japan. Like the Z4 Tablet announced at Mobile World Congress last month, the Z4 isn’t a dramatic departure from earlier Xperia devices like last fall’s Z3.

The Xperia Z4 is much like its Z3 predecessor, with the same 5.2-inch screen, a thinner 6.9mm form, and a Snapdragon 810 processor which clocks a more modest 2GHz but is eight-core and 64-bit. The rear-facing camera has the same 20.7-megapixels, the front-facing camera has gotten a wide-angle lens, and elsewhere there’s 3GB of RAM under the hood and Android 5.0 Lollipop runs out of the box.

With a thickness of 6.9mm and weight of 144g, Sony’s latest handset is thinner and lighter than the Xperia Z3. The sides of the device feature a metal frame, with the most noticeable change design-wise being the exposed micro-USB charging port. The Xperia Z4 will be available in White, Black, Copper and Aqua Green color variants, and is certified IP6X for dust and IPX5/IPX8 for water, allowing it to be submerged in up to 4.92 feet of water for over 30 minutes.
