Oppo Launches Find X3 Pro — World First Full-path Billion Colour Smartphone

Oppo Find X3 Pro will go on sale from 31st March in Europe with a retail price of £1099

Oppo has launched the Find X3 Pro bringing Full-path 10-bit Colour Management System and True Billion Colour Display, two billion colour flagship cameras, flagship Qualcomm power and best-in-class VOOC Flash Charging.

Oppo is part of BKK Electronics, which is one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world and operates brands OnePlus, Vivo and RealMe among others.

“We have taken inspiration from the depths of the cosmos, from the future, and the past, to deliver OPPO Find X3 Pro, created to fit seamlessly in your life while opening it to new worlds.

Every millimetre, inside and out, is designed to be powerful and flexible, immersive and always sparking beautiful emotions with Billion Colour brilliance,” said Lie Liu, President of Global Marketing, OPPO.

True Billion Colour Display

Opp Find X3 Pro comes with a true Billion Colour QHD+ (3216 x 1440) OLED display. A comfortable, expansive 6.7-inch screen that’s low-on-bezel and high on impact combines with a OPPO’s Full-path 10-bit Colour Management System.

With a crystal-clear 525PPI pixel density and peak brightness of 1300 nits, OPPO Find X3 Pro is sharp and bright; and with a staggeringly broad 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, the tones it displays are virtually lifelike. The quality is undeniable, with a colour accuracy rating of 0.4 JNCD, not to mention A+ DisplayMate certification.

Find X3 Pro’s display can natively deliver a 5 ∼ 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, thanks to its power-efficient LTPO OLED panel. Visuals glide and flow, while also saving power, whether you’re blasting through a multiplayer game, scrolling through your social newsfeed or reading an eBook.

Billion Colour Cameras

Oppo Find X3 Pro Cameras

On the back of the phone are four cameras, including a 50MP main, 50MP ultra-wide, 13MP 2x telephoto and a 3MP “microlens”, which is a zoomed-in macro lens a bit like a microscope.

The main and ultrawide 50MP cameras both have exactly the same image sensor, which is unusual, but means that you get very similar images shot by both cameras just with a different field of view. In good light, images are crisp, well balanced for colour and with good dynamic range. Low light performance is also solid, while video capture is pretty good too with interesting “film modes”, including at up to 8K at 30 frames a second, HDR and Log capture if you really want to try and shoot a bit more than a home movie. All these are things you should expect from a good main camera, but are far less common on an ultra-wide angle camera.

The telephoto camera offers 2x optical or 5x hybrid. When used in good light it can shoot good photos at 2x with plenty of detail. The hybrid 5x zoom is decent, but is clearly digitally expanded when compared with competitors with real 5x optical zoom cameras.

Oppo Find X3 Pro Colours

Find X3 Pro is a fast flagship, powered by a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, it’s supercharged to handle even the most demanding games, with a 64-bit octa-core chipset offering CPU speeds of up to 2.84GHz — a 25 per cent performance boost over its predecessor.

Adreno 660 GPU delivers graphics that enjoy a 35 per cent improvement in rendering performance, while Find X3 Pro’s ultra-thin, ultra-efficient vapour chamber cooling system keeps temperatures down.

Featuring Dual Mode 5G, Find X3 Pro supports NSA and SA 5G networks for reliable speed in more places. It also supports 13 5G bands – amongst the highest number of any flagship smartphone – as well as Dual-5G SIM cards; and what better way to enjoy 5G than by streaming HDR 10+ content, and listening to Dolby Atmos powered stereo speakers, complete with Ambient Sound Detection.

Despite its slender frame, a large 4500mAh battery has been fitted within Find X3 Pro, delivering reliable, day-long power. With SuperVOOC 2.0 flash charging, get 40 per cent power in just 10 minutes; and with 30W AirVOOC wireless flash charging, Find X3 Pro powers up to 100 per cent in just 80 minutes.

You can also share power, with 10W reverse wireless charging. All the while, TÜV Rheinland Certified Safe Fast-Charge System gives you the peace of mind to power up quickly with confidence.

ColorOS 11.2

OPPO’s human-centric interface, ColorOS 11.2, combines with Google’s Android 11 maintains full access to the Google Play Store and its over 3 million apps.

If square icons and pastel green colour scheme aren’t for you, the interface is highly customisable either with dedicated themes or just manual tweaks. The speed of animations can be changed as well as lots of gestures and navigation options.

There’s a “pull-out tray” for making using two apps on the screen a bit easier, plus ways to quickly launch apps using the in-screen fingerprint reader as a virtual joystick. Some oddities include the fact most notification icons do not appear in the status bar by default, and must be turned on per app and per notification type (such as for messages but not alerts).

You have to tap on notifications to expand them, rather than pulling down on them. The gesture to quickly launch the camera while the phone is locked is a double-press of one of the volume buttons, which is common in China, but not in Europe or the US.

With Android 11 and ColorOS 11.2’s latest privacy features, Find X3 Pro gives users even more control over their information, and when it’s time to separate your work and personal life, System Cloner creates two spaces within one incredibly smart phone.

The phone also attempts to get you to sign up for an account with a firm called HeyTap, but doesn’t explain why, who HeyTap is or the function it provides (it’s a cloud services firm) or why you should trust it with your data.

Unfortunately, Oppo will only commit to supporting the Find X3 Pro with at least two years of software and security updates, including two new Android version updates, from release, which is simply not good enough. No one should be using devices that are no longer updated to keep their data safe. When most good competitors offer at least three years of updates, with Samsung offering four years and Apple at least five years for similar or lower-cost devices, two years is really poor.

The Oppo Find X3 Pro will go on sale from 31st March in Europe with a retail price of £1099.
