iOS 14.7.1 brings Apple Watch Fix and Security Fix

Customers should upgrade to iOS 14.7.1 ASAP

Apple released OS 14.7 last week which had a serious bug in the fact that it could break the ability of iPhones to unlock an Apple Watch.

An issue in iOS 14.7 affected the ability of iPhone models with Touch ID to unlock Apple Watch.

Apple has quickly released iOS 14.7.1 which fixes this bug.

In addition, iOS 14.7.1 brings a fix to the CVE-2021-30807 security vulnerability, which enables malicious code to be smuggled in due to a memory allocation error.  The now patched vulnerability was reported anonymously to Apple and is described as a memory corruption flaw that could be exploited to launch code execution attacks with kernel privileges.

Apple stated that the defect may have been actively exploited” to plant malware on macOS and iOS devices.

Since the vulnerability not only affects iPhones and iPads based on iOS or iPadOS but also iMacs, MacBooks, and Mac desktops, Apple is also making an update to macOS 11.5.1 available for download at the same time.

As normal, Apple did not share details on the in-the-wild attacks or the profile of the targets.  The company did not release any indicators of compromise or any additional data to help defenders hunt for signs of infections.

iOS 14.7 is available as a free software update starting today for iPhone 6s and later.  If you don’t receive an automatic update notification, you can trigger the update manually by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update.
