Facebook today announced Account Kit, a new way for developers to create easy logins for their apps. It’s a complementary solution to Facebook Login and interestingly, doesn’t require people to have a Facebook account.

Account Kit is simple and quick to implement for both new and established apps, so developers can focus on building your core product instead of creating a login system and handling password storage. Account Kit is built on Facebook’s infrastructure—as technology, systems and devices change, the company will update Account Kit to help keep app’s on-boarding flow current.

Facebook state,

“Most people find remembering passwords difficult, so Account Kit gives people the option to log into new apps with just a few taps using only their phone number or email address. There’s no need for a username and password. People can use Account Kit without sharing any information from their Facebook profile—they don’t even need a Facebook account to use it. By removing these major barriers to entry, Account Kit helps you increase your sign-ups and expand your audience.”

Account Kit supports SMS login for over 230 countries and regions, in more than 40 languages. Developers can use Account Kit to send up to 100,000 confirmation SMS per month at no charge.

Main features:

  • Customizable user interface (UI): You can adapt the look and feel of Account Kit to match your brand. You’ll find two UI options in the Account Kit SDK: the basic UI is an easy solution with simple customization for the header, background, and button. The advanced UI gives you more customization options.
  • Rich analytics: If you use Account Kit alongside App Events from the Facebook SDK, you can get rich, aggregated analytics to help you better understand your audience and their login preferences.
  • Facebook notification backup option: If a person chooses to sign into your app using their phone number, but doesn’t receive an SMS, but does have a Facebook account, they can choose to receive a Facebook notification to complete the login process.

Facebook Account Kit SDK is now available for download for iOS, Android, or JavaScript (web).
