SwapBots AR Toy Debuts at AWE 2016

A playable prototype of new augmented reality toy SwapBots will be revealed at the Augmented World Expo in Santa Clara on June 1st and 2nd. Developed by immersive technology experts Draw & Code, SwapBots bridge the gap between physical and digital play.

The SwapBots team are actively seeking investment and partnership opportunities during their visit to California.

It is the first opportunity for the public and press to see for themselves why SwapBots could represent a compelling new direction for the toys-to-life genre. SwapBots aims to create a new price-point for the digital toy market and to make the genre so much more accessible to anybody with a smartphone or tablet.

The player simply points their mobile device at the SwapBot toy to see it come to life as the digital animation is overlaid onto it. The multi-player gameplay pits two players against each other during exciting, intuitive battles that encourage players to swap the pieces of the Bot to create the ideal warrior. This swapping mechanic means that there are thousands of variables within the game and it creates a tactile interaction with the toy that is lacking in other toys-to-life products.

The Augmented World Expo is the ideal event for SwapBots to be showcased for the first time. “We have attended AWE for the last two years” says SwapBots co-founder Andy Cooper, “so it is a thrill to return with a product that represents such a creative and exciting way to use augmented reality.”

Held in the heart of Silicon Valley, the Augmented World Expo will feature industry leaders including Vuforia, Unity, Intel and more. Fellow SwapBots founder John Keefe is looking forward to appearing alongside the biggest names in immersive technology; “For tech such as augmented reality to become a mainstream success it needs to be appealing and accessible which is what we are aiming for with SwapBots.”

SwapBots will be revealed on stand 210 in the AR Hall at AWE 2016 where the delegates and press will be the first people outside the development and testing team to use the prototype game and toys.
