Google to acquire Fitbit for $2.1 Billion

Google has confirmed that it has officially entered into a definitive agreement to buy Fitbit at a valuation of $2.1 billion.  Fitbit is Google’s biggest acquisition in consumer electronics since it paid $3.2bn for smart home company Nest in 2014.

Huawei granted China‘s first 5G base station network access license

Huawei has obtained China‘s first 5G base station network access license, showing that the company could support the country 5G rollout on a large scale and marks its official connection to public telecom commercial networks. The company is the first to be granted a license issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

ARM to Supply Huawei With Chip Tech again

Chip manufacturer ARM is to resume its supply of chips to Huawei after cutting them off in May thanks to the US-China trade war. ARM  has concluded an investigation by its legal team which found its designs are of UK origin, and so supplying the Chinese tech manufacturer with them would not breach the embargo placed on Huawei by the US.

Based on deployment practices and 5G research conducted by Huawei, network operators, and industry partners, the white paper elaborates on eight applications with market potential and suitable for large-scale commercial adoption.

O2 turns on 5G network

O2 today turned on 5G in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, Slough and Leeds with a promise to have 20 total locations by the end of 2019. It offers four 5G phones, the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G, Samsung Galaxy A90 5G and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G.

Huawei launches new 5G mobile antennae

Huawei has launched a new generation of 5G mobile antennae, anticipating an acceleration in the pace of network upgrades led by the three operators in the Chinese home market. Huawei has pioneered the development of Massive MIMO - or multiple input and multiple output - antennae that feature arrays of transmitters and receivers to run fifth-generation mobile services.
