BlackBerry launches BlackBerry Intelligent Security, New AI-Powered Solution

BlackBerry today launched BlackBerry Intelligent Security, a cloud-based solution that leverages the power of adaptive security, continuous authentication and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance mobile endpoint security in zero trust environments.

BlackBerry Intelligent Security uses a combination of contextual and behavioural factors to dynamically adapt security requirements and calculate a unique risk score for each interaction. Using this unique risk score, a mobile user can be granted access to specific device applications and services, as defined by IT administrators.

This provides granular control and delivers a better, more productive end user experience – all without sacrificing an organisation’s regulatory and security policies.

BlackBerry Intelligent Security utilises a range of behavioural, device and other characteristics to seamlessly secure endpoints. Some of the unique contextual factors include:

  • Behavioral Location: BlackBerry Intelligent Security learns the trusted locations, frequency and patterns of users based on analysis of anonymised location and other behavioural inputs to determine behaviour and location-based risk score. Locations can be predefined with a set of policy actions to be executed when a user is within the location boundaries.
  • Network Trust: BlackBerry Intelligent Security learns the frequency of network use and adjusts security dynamically based on that profile. For example, the solution would adjust the risk score accordingly for a user who is accessing any new Wi-Fi for the first time.
  • Time & Usage Anomalies: BlackBerry Intelligent Security learns how and when employees normally access data to protect against instances of anomalous behaviour.
  • Device and App DNA: BlackBerry® Intelligent Security builds a uniquely identifying signature for trusted, compliant devices and apps, and uses that signature to detect and block access attempts by rogue, non-compliant devices.

- BlackBerry Intelligent Security - BlackBerry launches BlackBerry Intelligent Security, New AI-Powered SolutionYou can use BlackBerry Intelligent Security to dynamically adapt the security requirements and behaviour of your users’ devices and work apps to their real-world contexts.

For example, if a user’s app data reports a geographical location that is not typical for the user, BlackBerry Intelligent Security enables BlackBerry UEM to dynamically limit the user’s access to work apps, disable certain device features such as the camera, and enforce stricter authentication requirements.

If a user’s app data reports a geographical location that is typical for the user, BlackBerry Intelligent Security enables UEM to apply device behaviours that make it easier to access work apps and resources.

BlackBerry Intelligent Security adds a layer of adaptive security to your organisation’s existing UEM or UEM Cloud domain without introducing an additional software footprint.

BlackBerry Intelligent Security is a cloud service hosted by BlackBerry that collects data from existing BlackBerry solutions, including BlackBerry Enterprise Identity and BlackBerry Dynamics apps that are enabled for BlackBerry Analytics. The BlackBerry Dynamics apps released by BlackBerry are already enabled for BlackBerry Analytics.

BlackBerry Intelligent Security also adds new functionality to BlackBerry Enterprise Identity authentication policies. You can now incorporate a user’s behavioural risk level and geozone risk level into the factors that determine the type of authentication that is required for work apps and services.

For example, you can configure the policy to require users to enter both a password and use BlackBerry 2FA to access work apps if their behavioural risk level is high. Similarly, you can relax the authentication requirements if a user’s behavioural risk level is low.

Bryan Palma, BlackBerry President and COO said,

The increasing velocity and complexity of threats render traditional security models incapable of fully satisfying critical requirements

BlackBerry Intelligent Security’s real-world context, machine learning and predictive analytics set a new standard for a zero trust environment – bringing a new level of sophistication to all industries where security is essential.

BlackBerry Intelligent Security is the first solution built on top of the BlackBerry Spark platform.  Coupled with CylancePERSONA, BlackBerry now offers real-time adaptive security with AI for all endpoints – from mobile to desktop.
