Twitter’s Chronological Timeline rolls out on Android

Last updated:

Last month, Twitter announced the ability to switch between seeing top Tweets first or seeing the latest Tweets first. That said, the feature was initially rolled out to iOS first, promising Android users will get their turn soon.  The company has now turned on the feature for Android users.

The toggle for the feature is up at the top of the app—the strangely named “sparkles”. Tap that, and the app asks if you want to switch to viewing the latest tweets. Tap again, and you can go back to the algorithmic home. Unfortunately, this change is not permanent. After you’ve been away for “a while,” the feed switches back to the regular home.

The feature was long-awaited by users who preferred to use Twitter for its original function of keeping up with live events in real time, like sports and awards ceremonies. It’s still not going to remove the annoying ‘In case you missed it’ tweets, or the occasional notification that lets you know your friends liked a tweet, despite it being from accounts you don’t follow, but it’s at least a start.

So far, this appears to be a server-side switch and there is no app to update. If you are not seeing the option, clearing your Twitter app cache may solve the issue.
