Following confirmation this morning (Friday) that Telefonica UK - the owners of O2 - is in exclusive sale talks with Hutchinson Whampoa - the owners of 3 mobile - the Communication Workers Union (CWU) is seeking assurances over job security for the company's UK employees.

Three set to buy O2 for £10 billion in cash [UPDATED]
Mobile network Three is reportedly set to acquire its rival O2 for more than £10bn in cash. Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing is set to become one of the biggest foreign investors in the UK when his Hutchison Whampoa conglomerate acquires the O2 network from its Spanish owner Telefónica.

A European takeover is a “top priority” for Three
Following BT’s decision to acquire EE, there have been many rumours that the UK’s smallest network Three, would make a bid for Telefonica-owned O2. Whilst Three UK are yet to confirm such interest, the Managing Director for the parent company has apparently confirmed his company’s interest in acquiring O2.
